Low-profile clamp filters

21 March 2012 Circuit & System Protection

TDK-EPC has developed the ZCAT-D series of TDK clamp filters. The new low-profile filters are especially suited for EMI suppression by eliminating noise in the power lines of flat-screen TVs, in speaker lines and similar applications.

The parts employ a vertically split cylindrical ferrite core, with the entire filter enclosed in a resin housing. The ferrite core, which was developed by applying TDK’s original materials technology, ensures excellent magnetic characteristics and effective RF noise suppression.

Because conventional products are too thick to fit into the rear case of flat-screen TVs, the new filter has been slimmed down. This was achieved by modifying the sintering method of the material for the ferrite core, allowing it to be made thinner without negatively affecting performance. The result is a 30% height reduction compared to conventional TDK products. The temperature range for usage is -25°C to +85°C.
