200 W DC-DC converters

18 April 2012 Power Electronics / Power Management

After the launch of its RSD-100 (100 W) and RSD-150 (150 W) series, Mean Well has further expanded its second generation of enclosed type, single-output DC-DC converters with the introduction of the RSD-200 (200 W) series to fulfil the various requirements of vehicle applications.

Featuring a 2:1 (±40%) wide input range and 4000 V d.c. input/output isolation, the new devices are characterised by 5 G anti-vibration ability, wide working temperature range of -40°C to +70°C, protections for short circuit, overload, output over-voltage, over-temperature and input reverse polarity, as well as

built-in constant current limiting circuitry and 40 mm low-profile (1U compliant) design.

The RSD-200 series boasts up to 91% efficiency. All series are semi-encapsulated for PCB protection to provide the basic ability of anti-moisture, anti-dust, heat dissipation and anti-vibration. The design of these new converters conforms to ITE standards (IEC60950-1 and EN55022) and also comply with railway certificates (EN50155, IEC60571, IEC61373, EN50121-3-2), so that they are suitable to be used in all kinds of vehicles that are equipped with DC power sources.

Potential applications include railway, metro rapid transit system, subway, bus, leisure trailer, vessel etc. In addition, along with external batteries as the energy source, they are suitable for harsh industrial installations that are subject to dust and moisture, such as security systems, DC UPS systems and telecom equipment.
