1,2 V regulator controls power-up sequencing in microprocessors

Micrel Semiconductor is offering a tiny, low-voltage regulator for power-up sequencing in microprocessors. Capable of providing up to 150 mA, the new MIC5248 is equipped with a power-good output that alerts the processor when the output of the regulator has reached and settled on its intended value. This allows the processor to come up gradually. The regulator is also capable of alerting the processor when a fault condition occurs and the output is out of regulation.

Available in the IttyBitty SOT23-5 package, the MIC5248 comes with a fixed 1,2 V output. According to the company, like its other new generation CMOS regulators, it features fast transient response, low ground current and µCap performance. Micrel's µCap regulators are stable with smaller ceramic output capacitors, eliminating the need for larger, less reliable tantalum capacitors.
