Energy saving device for lamps launched

Philips Lighting has launched the latest in energy saving technology onto the SA market. The Philips TRIOS Luxsense is a light sensing device, which is meant to be integrated into 'down-lighting' luminaires, adding a regulating function in conjunction with the regulating ballast. This means that when a Luxsense is connected to a lamp, the reflection from the lamp will be controlled such that it will not give out unnecessary light, and thus save electricity. Philips says it compensates for the excess lighting levels in a room caused by overdesign of the lighting system. Luxsense controls at least 80% of the artificial light it 'sees'. This can be critical in applications when there is a high amount of indirect light from other luminaires such as sunlight coming through windows, says Philips.
