LED power supply

22 August 2012 Power Electronics / Power Management

Mean Well has introduced a new LED power supply featuring high output voltage and low current rating. The 70 W HLG-60H-C series is designed to fulfil the demands of low- to middle-wattage LED lighting applications.

With 90–305 V a.c. input, the units have 350 mA (200 V d.c. maximum output) or 700 mA (100 V d.c. maximum output) rated constant current, which are commonly used by lighting fixture designers. Combating the influence of dust and moisture in outdoor or harsh indoor environments, they are fully potted by glue (IP65/67 structure) and enclosed in an aluminium case.

Using the HLG-60H-C in an LED lighting fixture allows connection of numerous LEDs in one single strip up to the highest voltage rating of the driver. With this design, users do not need to sort the forward voltage of LEDs but can still reach the ideal constant current as well as prolong the lifetime for the LED strips.

With constant voltage plus constant current design, the power supplies integrate two-stage active power factor correction and comply with EN61000-3-2 Class C (>60% load) harmonic current limitation. They also offer a power factor in excess of 0,9 if loading over 50% and possess 4 kV surge immunity (EN61000-4-5) which complies with the requirements of street lighting.

The HLG-60-C series boasts up to 91% efficiency, allowing it to be cooled by free air convection from -40°C to +70°C ambient temperature and meeting the high-temperature requirements of closed lighting systems.

Besides standard protection functions for short circuit, over-voltage, overload and over-temperature, these power units provide a three-in-one dimming function (B type) or timer dimming function (D type).
