Military-grade UPS

22 August 2012 Power Electronics / Power Management

SynQor announced a new line of military-grade uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units that are designed for the extreme environmental and demanding electrical conditions of military/aerospace applications.

This UPS will accept a wide range of input voltage and frequency values while delivering a well-conditioned AC output to the load. The use of lithium polymer batteries permits a very low-profile and lightweight solution. It is designed and manufactured in SynQor’s USA facilities to comply with a wide range of military standards. Options include a DC output and the ability to also draw power from a military standard 28 V d.c. input.

The units feature a sealed, weatherproof and shockproof design. The hot swappable internal battery pack comes as standard with >10 minute runtime at full power after the loss of input power.

The units have a 1250 W (1500 VA) power output with a full-power operation temperature range of -20°C to +55°C. They work off a universal AC input (80–265 V a.c.; 47–65 Hz) with power factor correction at the AC input. They also feature dual-input (AC and optional DC), true on-line double conversion, cold start with no AC or DC input connections, pure sinusoidal AC output voltage (115 V a.c., 60 Hz) and handle 0,0–1,0 power factor loads and non-linear loads.

A communication signal I/O port comes as standard in a rugged 1U high rack-mount unit. Available options are DC input (28 Vnom) for dual source, extended battery pack (in 2U high unit) giving >24 minutes of run-time, 360 Hz–800 Hz AC input and 50 Hz or 400 Hz output. An auxiliary isolated DC output (up to 500 W) is also available.
