Euroquartz has introduced a new range of low-EMI oscillators that are a ‘drop-in’ replacement for standard clock oscillators. They are suitable for use in a wide range of applications.
The HM572 ‘N’ series uses spread spectrum (dithered) techniques to reduce EMI emissions from the oscillator by 8 to 15 dB. In most electronic systems, the principal cause of EMI is the system clock so it makes sense to reduce this at source rather than relying on traditional methods of patching up systems with ferrite beads, ground planes, metal shielding and similar costly additions.
Spread spectrum technology spreads the mode energy over a wider bandwidth and, as the technique operates in the kHz region, the process is transparent to the oscillator operating frequency.
The low-EMI oscillators are housed in standard 7 x 5 x 1,4 mm surface mount packages. The available frequency range is from 8 to 128 MHz and specifications include a choice of spread type and modulation depth. The modulation carrier frequency varies from 31,25 kHz minimum to 62,5 kHz maximum dependent upon operating frequency and the specification required.
Frequency stability is from ±25 ppm to ±100 ppm over both commercial (0 to
70°C) and industrial (-40 to +85°C) temperature ranges.
