Wide-input DC-DC converters

3 October 2012 Power Electronics / Power Management

Calex announced the 75 Watt WDE series of 1/8-brick DC-DC converters, featuring wide 4:1 input ranges of 9–36 V and 18–75 V. The initial release of the series provides output voltages of 24, 28 and 48 V, while 3,3 V to 15 V models are being developed.

All models are fully isolated input-to-output and housed in an encapsulated, five-sided shielded enclosure with dimensions of 6,35 x 2,8 x 1,4 cm. They offer remote sense, trim and analog ON/OFF. No minimum load is required and efficiency is 90% typical.

Line and load regulation is 0,2% typical, while output voltage setpoint accuracy is 0,2% and output noise is typically 1% of Vout. With switching frequency of 275 kHz, all models are available with RoHS or non-RoHS construction. Communication and control of the WDE converter is achieved via a PMBus serial interface.

Digital features include a variety of functions which can be managed through a user friendly GUI interface, including precision adjustable over-temperature protection, configurable input under- and over-voltage protection, configurable current-limit inception and shutdown delay, logging of historical fault events in non-volatile memory, precision (±0,2%) output voltage accuracy and trim, configurable output over-voltage protection, monitoring of Vin, Vout, Iin and temperature, digital dynamic adjustment of Vout, and digital warning thresholds for faults, to avert shutdown.
