Servo motors and controllers

17 October 2012 Power Electronics / Power Management

Faulhaber has extended its linear DC servo motor product range with new versions integrating an axial type connection to satisfy constrained space requirements.

The new axial coupling also improves the mechanical robustness of the connection to electronic controllers. The LM 1247 and LM 2070 provide a peak force of up to 27,6 N and 10,7 N respectively. They are available with different stroke lengths ranging from 20 to 120 mm for the LM 1247 and up to 220 mm for the LM 2070.

The linear servo motors integrate analog Hall sensors or sin/cos type sensors to meet positioning needs without requiring an external encoder. The LM 2070 can be coupled to MCLM 3003 or MCLM 3006 drive electronics while the new miniature MCLM 3002 controller (details below) is the ideal companion for the LM 1247. Motion controllers are available with serial or CAN interface.

The linear DC servo motor product family also includes Faulhaber’s smallest motor, the LM 0830 measuring just 8 x 12 x 30 mm and weighing only 17 grams. The easy-to-use Motion Manager Software, for use with the analog Hall sensor version, is included.

The MC 3002 motion controller is aimed at miniature drives in the lower power range. The compact electronics can be used for the operation of DC micro motors as well as for both brushless and linear DC servo motors.

The series MC 3002 also includes drives with absolute encoders and offers great flexibility and efficiency when it comes to configuration. Due to the high resolution of the encoder, brushless DC servo motors featuring absolute encoders combine the benefit of more effective commutation with high-precision control even at very low speeds. The absolute angle information is available right from power-on, an important feature for many positioning applications.

The operating mode of the motion controller MCBL 3002 is freely selectable and can be reconfigured from brushless 2-pole drives to brushless 4-pole drives, using the updated Motion Manager Software 4.7. Control can be either by means of an RS-232 or a CAN interface.

Optimised current measurement and direct connection to motors with flex board complete the MC 3002 series.
