Cable and antenna tester

1 August 2001 Test & Measurement

Bird Electronic has released the new Model SA-2500A site analyser which can now be used to test cable and antenna systems with a frequency range of 780 to 2500 MHz. It can also be used for digital power measurement.

Due to the success of the original site analyser the company says the range was expanded to cover higher and lower frequencies. The SA-2500A is claimed to be easy-to-use, reliable, and provide accurate and repeatable measurements. For sweep and distance-to-fault testing, the product offers a high resolution colour display, fast sweep rate, on-screen comparison of live and recalled trace, and unlimited trace overlays per report, to compare antennas and track performance over time. It also provides industry-leading immunity to on-channel interference (+13 dBm) for testing at co-located antenna sites. The SA-2500A has now also been equipped with flash memory, making future software enhancements faster and easier. Users can download the future enhancements from the Internet, and update the site analyser via an RS232 connection.

Also used for digital power measurement, the SA-2500A along with Model 5010 digital power sensor and DPM elements, can measure forward and reflected power and display VSWR and return loss. In tower mounted amplifier (TMA) applications, utilising 'DC injection' methods, power measurement data is accurate and does not load the DC power supply - a site analyser exclusive capability according to the manufacturer.

The applications of the site analyser include cellular and PCS systems with AMPS, CDMA, GSM or TDMA modulation schemes. Other digital and analog applications include 3G, microwave, paging, trunking, WLAN and WLL. The SA-2500A can provide a simple solution for cable and antenna testing, as well as power measurement.
