Single-wire CAN transceivers reduce costs

1 August 2001 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT

Philips Semiconductors is offering a new family of single-wire controller area network (CAN) transceivers for use in cost-sensitive auto body networking applications. Compared to current alternative systems, the company says the AU5790D and AU5790D14 1W CAN transceivers reduce wiring, assembly and maintenance costs for automotive manufacturers.

The products act as bus transceivers in body electronics applications such as climate control, door locks, instrument clusters, seat positioning and other body and convenience systems. The AU5790D and AU5790D14 1W transceivers support GMLAN and SAEJ2411 standards for single-wire CANs, which include data rates of 33,3 Kbps and a maximum of 32 nodes and can be increased to 41,6 Kbps with modified bus loading.

The AU5790D also contains a built-in selective sleep feature that reduces the battery load, thus allowing enhanced battery life during ignition-off operation. In addition, a unique high voltage wake-up feature allows normal bus communications without disturbing any sleeping nodes.

The transceiver family is robust against ESD, featuring 8 kV ESD capability on the battery and CanH pins and has built-in surge protection.
