Lapp unveils range of solar interconnection products

31 October 2012 Interconnection

Lapp Group and FPE Fischer unveiled a range of joint developments at this year’s Intersolar exhibition in Europe.

The partners exhibited modular connection systems for crystalline and thin-film solar modules with a completely new connection design to help reduce costs, to ease service and repowering of the modules and to increase the degree of automation in the module manufacturing process.

The two companies have already enjoyed success together with their first joint development: the EPIC SOLAR RAZOR. This junction box that is integrated in the module was nominated for the Intersolar Award 2012 in the photovoltaics category.

Further product highlights included the COOL SIDE product line for patented aluminium junction boxes and SMART SIDE for plastic junction boxes and components. SMART SIDE offers innovative solutions both for ongoing development of crystalline modules, and for future technologies such as organic photovoltaics.

The FPE PL008 from the SMART SIDE product line is another joint development that was unveiled at the event. This junction box is made of top-quality plastic, for ambient resistant cabling of photovoltaic systems. The PTEE membrane ensures the requisite pressure equalisation while preventing the ingress of moisture and guaranteeing protection to IP67 rating.

Energy efficiency is boosted by the reinforced retention of the ribbons, while moulded cable glands eliminate potential sealing issues. Thanks to their identical inner design, the FPE AL 008 (COOL SIDE) aluminium junction box and the new FPE PL 008 (SMART SIDE) can be interchanged.

The solar product portfolio is further extended with the new EPIC SOLAR4 connector. This connector is compatible to the pre-assembled EPIC SOLAR 4 THIN, has double locking hooks and is available for 2,5 and 4,6 mm cables. By crimping the connector to the cable, system installers can join the cables and the Lapp/FPE junction boxes.
