With the SG-3030, Epson significantly improves on its range of 32,768 kHz SMD crystal oscillators.
An extended temperature range as well as a wider operating voltage range are two of its main new features. The SG-3030 now operates between -40 and +85°C and accepts voltage levels from 1,5 to 5,5 V. Besides the former 10,5 x 5 mm2 (JC-package) it now comes in a standard 7 x 5 mm2 (JF-package). A very low profile of 1,5 mm max makes it attractive for space-sensitive applications. Also, battery-driven devices will benefit from the low current consumption of 2 µA max.
As a special feature the SG-3030 offers control of output amplitude. This means the amplitude can have a different level (eg 1,8 V core voltage of the IC) than the operating voltage (eg 4,2 V of the battery). This unique function will ease the design with different voltage levels. The SG-3030 can serve as a clock source for up to three ICs and therefore help to reduce the overall number of components.
Key specifications are: output frequency, 32,768 kHz; frequency stability (+5 ± 23) x 10e-6 (25°C, 3,3 V); operating temperature, -40 to +85°C; operating voltage, 1,5 to 5,5 V; external dimensions, JF: 7,3 x 5,3 x 1,5 mm maximum.
Besides cellular applications, this crystal oscillator also targets applications for PCs, servers, workstations and OA equipment, to name just a few.
