Vishay has rolled out a new series of surface-mount TransZorb transient voltage suppressors (TVS) in the SlimSMA DO-221AC package. SMA6F series devices offer a very low profile of 0,95 mm, high surge capability to 600 W at 10/1000 μs and 4 kW at 8/20 μs, and excellent clamping capability.
The new devices are 50% thinner than those in the traditional SMA package, yet are footprint compatible and offer 50% higher surge capability at 10/1000 s. Their low clamping voltages of 9,2 to 31,4 V at 10/1000 μs and 13,4 to 36,8 V at 8/20 μs are 3% to 9% lower than current TVS devices in the SMB package.
With their compact size, SMA6F TVS are designed to protect sensitive electronics against voltage transients induced by inductive load switching and lightning in space-constrained consumer, computer, industrial and telecommunication applications. Typical end products include hard disks, hot-swap computer and telecom cards, and slim LCD TVs and monitors.
The SMA6F series consists of 16 devices with stand-off voltages from 5 V to 20 V. They offer a temperature range from -55°C to +175°C, and provide ESD capability of 15 kV (air) and 8 kV (contact) in accordance to IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4. Ideal for automated placement, the devices are RoHS compliant and halogen free.
