The new HV9973 from Supertex is an isolated, constant-current LED driver for use in high-voltage solid-state lighting applications such as incandescent bulb retrofits. The IC achieves ±3% current accuracy through patented primary side current sensing and has internal over-voltage and short circuit protection. The patented control technique also makes the output current setting insensitive to most component tolerances and parasitics without the need of an optocoupler feedback. The device controls an isolated flyback topology that meets UL requirements for galvanic isolation and operates from 280 – 400 V d.c. It is available in a RoHS compliant 8-lead SOIC package.
