Avago Technologies announced a new smart gate drive optocoupler, the ACPL-339J, with 1 A output current and dual outputs optimised for driving both high-side and low-side gates of the MOSFET buffer stage. The device features internal active timing control circuitry preventing cross conduction and minimising switching losses in the MOSFET buffer stage.
The ACPL-339J is designed to maximise gate drive design scalability for motor control and power conversion applications, ranging from low to high power ratings. Uniquely designed to support MOSFET buffer of various current ratings, it makes it easier for system engineers to support different system power ratings using one hardware platform by interchanging the MOSFET buffers and power IGBT/MOSFET switches. More importantly, these changes can be made without redesigning the critical circuit isolation and short circuit protection.
The IC is available in an SO16 package with features including VCE desaturation detection, under-voltage lockout (UVLO) detection, ‘soft’ IGBT turn-off and isolated open collector fault feedback. This package offers wide creepage and clearance of 8,3 mm and is compliant to the industrial safety standards, IEC/EN/DIN EN 60747-5-5 with a maximum reinforced working insulation voltage of 1414 VPEAK and UL1577 with a maximum insulation voltage of 5 kVRMS.
