Compact robotic connectors for smaller automation needs

15 August 2001 Interconnection

The compact robotic connector (CRC) system from Molex provides a standardised power and signal interface for factory automation applications such as small robots and other motor-driven equipment. At 1/15th the size of traditional heavy-duty rectangular I/O robotic connectors, the system represents a smaller new form factor that also helps simplify cabling. The system is available in wire-to-panel and wire-to-wire applications.

The CRC industrial I/O connector system can offer the combined features of 7 A, shielding and high density 3,00 mm grid packaging in up to 30 circuits. Comparable industrial I/O connectors, such as circular versions, are normally available in either smaller circuit sizes or larger form factors.

The CRC system is available in 12, 20 and 30 circuits to meet the pin-out needs of smaller robots that would normally use up to four motors. With a rating of 250 V and 7 A, the CRC system can be used as either a signal or power connector. In a typical robot application, one CRC connector would be used to carry signal currents and one used to carry power.

Another key feature of the system is its removable 'one-touch' housing. Modular housings can be easily removed from the panel attachment via a spring-lock that enables easy field maintenance, offering advantages over circular connectors.

The CRC system can be supplied in component kit form or as a complete cable assembly, with cable lengths made up to the specific requirements of each application.
