Webb Industries supplies the pneumatic range of telescopic Hilomasts in South Africa, and, according to the company’s MD, Paul Richards, demand for the products is strong: “These telescopic masts are unusually versatile and can be used almost anywhere, anytime and in any place. The mast can be extended up to 30 m by using low-pressure air which is supplied either from a compressor or, in the case of smaller masts, from a foot pump.”

Hilomast has long been established as a world leader in pneumatic mast technology and, in addition to providing a supporting mast for mobile or semi-permanent communications systems, the product is particularly appropriate to those involved in security, surveillance and high-level filming or camera work.

One of the most popular uses of the Hilomast in South Africa is on COWs (Cell on Wheels) built by Anderson Power Products (APP). The COW is a fully mobile antenna trailer which can then be towed to any required point. APP builds the trailer and then installs all the necessary equipment like generators, all the requisite electronics and, of course, the Hilomast.

Designed and constructed from heat treated aluminium alloy to meet the demands of being mobile and having to be quick and easy to erect – sometimes in places that have quite extreme climatic variations or environmental changes – Hilomast is chosen by numerous telecommunication companies worldwide.
