Uninterruptible power supply

21 August 2013 Power Electronics / Power Management

A new high-frequency, 15 – 120 kVA, 3-phase (input and output) uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system, targeted at the protection of critical operations and processes in departmental, distributed office and small data centre applications, has been launched by local power provisioning specialist, Powermode.

The EVO Safepower HF from Siel features an efficiency rating of 96,5% and a compact footprint designed for easy installation, especially on sites with limited power capacity available, or with generator compatibility challenges.

The unit features low input current distortion – less than 3% – with a high input power factor of 0,99. It boasts a power ‘walk-in’ function to achieve progressive rectifier startup, and a delayed startup on mains power supply return. It also acts as a high-performance filter to protect its power supply from load-induced harmonics and reactive power.

The UPS incorporates a battery care system to optimise battery performance, extend working life and ensure that the UPS is fit to deliver its full-rated runtime when called upon to do so in the event of a complete mains power failure.

The unit is designed to operate with a range of battery types: VRLA AGM and GEL lead-acid batteries including open-vented types, in addition to Ni-Cads. It features three communication slots for accessories such as network adaptors and potential-free contacts, a remote emergency power off function to shut down the UPS remotely in an emergency, and an input connection with an auxiliary contact for an external manual bypass.
