High-temperature varistors

9 October 2013 Circuit & System Protection

AVX has added several new high-temperature varistors to its radial leaded TransGuard automotive series. Based on patented multilayer varistor (MLV) technology, the new components are rated for -55°C to +150°C, qualified to AEC-Q200, and feature a robust construction that enables sustained peak performance in an expanded range of harsh environment and high-temperature applications, such as under hood and down hole drilling.

Combining circuit protection and EMI/RFI attenuation functions in a single device available in two compact sizes, the new parts provide bidirectional transient voltage protection in the on-state and EMI/RFI attenuation in the off-state, effectively reducing component count and saving critical board space.

The varistors are available in four working voltages (14, 18, 26 and 48 V), four clamping voltages (60, 67, 100 and 150 V) and three energy ratings (0,1, 0,4 and 2,0 J) and are also rated for 25 kV ESD. Conformally coated with epoxy resin for enhanced durability in harsh environments, the lead-free and RoHS-compliant series is available in two sizes and with Ni underplate/100% Sn plated wire leads; nickel-free leads are available upon request.
