M12 connectors for industrial comms

14 May 2014 Interconnection

Webb Industries now offers the Telegärtner M12 circular connector series for transmitting high and maximum data rates in industrial communications. This connector system includes cable plugs for assembly in the field, printed circuit board receptacles as well as pre-assembled connecting cables.

Industrial requirements for secure and continuous transfer of constantly increasing data volumes demand cabling solutions which are able to satisfy the needs of today and the future, and the cabling of industrial communication networks in accordance with IEC 61918 is provided for by the 4- and 8-pole versions of the Telegärtner M12x1 round connector as a plug interface.

The 4-pole M12x1 D-coded circular connectors can be used for installations in the Profinet environment for data rates up to 100 Mbps. For even higher data rates up to 10 Gbps the circular connector is standardised as an 8-pole version M12x1 in X-coding. This version also enables a power supply to connected terminating equipment in accordance with IEEE 802.3at (53 V d.c., 30 W).

The new M12x1 round connectors are suitable for cabling of industrial communication networks in accordance with IEC 61918 edition 3.0. In addition to the 4- and 8-pole versions of the field assembly connectors, Webb also offers printed circuit board receptacles and pre-assembled connecting cables.

The 4-pole M12x1 D-coded circular connectors allow applications such as security or video surveillance (CCTV), passenger information systems (PIS), production systems or production monitoring with high-resolution cameras to be implemented.

With the field-assembly version of the new M12x1 X-coded Cat.6A connector, networks can be set up on site without special tools. The connector offers a 360° shield connection and is suitable for terminating to both solid conductors and stranded cables. Both S/FTP and SF/UTP types with a wire diameter of 0,9 to 1,6 mm and an external diameter of 5,5 to 9 mm can be used for the connection.
