productronica 2015 may be a long time away but Messe München, the event’s organisers, had barely escorted visitors to last year’s electronica out the exit doors before spilling the beans on a shake-up in how the show will be organised this year.

The biggest change that will greet productronica visitors in Munich this November is a fundamental restructure of the various technology segments into five clusters. This new structure will also be reflected by the hall assignments, with individual segments bundled more clearly.
This move is sure to be welcomed by all, especially international visitors who are eager to make the most of their time at the show by experiencing as much as possible (as well as making time for the odd sightseeing side trip). Messe München says it was motivated by input from exhibitors and trade associations, and the need to take into account evolving manufacturing requirements, new focal points and future markets. It also believes that visitors will gain from a unique overview of the entire value chain in electronics manufacturing.
The 19 different segments will be arranged around the new cluster structure as follows:
PCB and EMS cluster
• PCB and other circuit carrier manufacturing.
• Electronic manufacturing services (EMS.)
SMT cluster
• Component mount technology.
• Soldering and joining technology for PCBs.
• Test and measurement, quality assurance.
• Product finishing.
• Production subsystems.
• Production logistics and material flow technology.
Semiconductor cluster
• Semiconductor manufacturing.
• Display manufacturing, LEDs and discrete devices.
• Photovoltaics manufacturing.
• Micro-/nano-production.
• Cleanroom technology.
• Materials processing.
Cables, coils and hybrids cluster
• Technologies for cables processing and connectors.
• Coilware production.
• Hybrid component manufacturing.
Future markets cluster
• IT to production, Industry 4.0.
• Technologies for batteries and electrical energy storage.
• Organic and printed electronics.
• 3D printing, additive manufacturing.
Additionally, changes to the fair’s forums will see each cluster have its own speakers’ corner.
