Actel has announced it is shipping the industry's largest flash-based, 'live-at-power-up', field-programmable gate array (FPGA) devices qualified to industrial specifications. The ProASIC A500K180 and A500K270 industrial devices, which offer 370 000 and 475 000 system gates, respectively, represent the highest density, nonvolatile, single-chip, reprogrammable solutions on the market, according to the company.
These industrial-grade FPGAs are guaranteed to operate at extended ambient temperatures of -40 to +85°C. This range, combined with the industry's largest density for flash-based FPGAs, makes them ideal for applications such as remotely deployed networking and telecommunications systems, civilian aircraft avionics and industrial control.
The new devices join Actel's ProASIC A500K050 and -130, qualified earlier this year. The company's product portfolio now offers designers a broad range of industrial-qualified solutions with densities from 2K to 475K system gates.
The A500K270, with 475 000 system gates, offers nearly 27 000 registers and 63 Kb of RAM in 28 blocks of 256 x 9 bits. The 370 000-gate A500K180 offers more than 18 000 registers with 54 Kb of RAM in 24 blocks.
The ProASIC 500K family consists of four devices ranging in size from 100 000 to 475 000 system gates and includes up to 63 Kb of embedded two-port memory. Through its nonvolatile flash technology the ProASIC 500K family combines the advantages of ASICs with the benefits of PLDs.
