Electronic design software for learners
18 March 2015
Design Automation
Sangari South Africa, a company specialising in learning systems, has introduced a software solution that enables learners to design, create and test virtual electronic circuit boards. Called Electronics Software Simulator, it combines circuit design, simulation and printed circuit board (PCB) design in such a way as to help students and trainers improve their learning experience.
The software converts a circuit design into a PCB layout with the ability to take measurements, and trains students on how to construct circuits on a breadboard layout, as well as how to use measuring instruments. The simulated testing of the board provides immediate feedback on whether it will operate in a real working environment. In the event of a failure, the student is able to study the virtual design and make corrections.
A component database of more than 2000 components is provided, which includes LCDs, servo motors, stepper motors, sensors and keypads. Other features include auto-routing, animated displaying of elementary components and current flow along wires, and conversion of flowcharts into BASIC.
The simulation software is ideal for teaching, fault-finding and measuring techniques, and reduces the need for expensive hardware while providing students with an inexpensive method for checking a PCB design without wasting any real components.
