Gaia Converter’s new MGDDI-20 family of DC-DC converters target railway, transportation and high-end industrial applications. With a wide 12–160 V input voltage range covering all typical battery/bus voltages (24 V, 36 V, 48 V, 72 V, 96 V, 110 V, 125 V), the devices achieve efficiency as high as 90%.
With two isolated outputs (for parallel, serial or symmetrical operation) of 5 V, 12 V, 15 V and 24 V, the converters can cover a wide variety of needs such as single 5 to 48 V output, ±15 V or 2 x 24 V outputs (10 W each) for example. Packaged in a low-profile, industry standard 2,54 x 3,81 cm housing, they have a wide temperature range of -40°C to +100°C and are potted to fit rugged transportation environmental conditions.
The units are full-featured and protected with zero to full-load regulation, trim and on/off capability, adjustable UVLO, soft start, embedded EMI filter as well as over-current and over-temperature protection. Complying with EN50155/55022 or equivalent standard becomes straightforward thanks to the wide input voltage range and the use of a fixed switching frequency (270 kHz) with embedded LC filter. Designed for rugged applications, the converters do not use optocouplers in the feedback loop.
