SBC for open-source development

8 April 2015 Computer/Embedded Technology

The Banana Pi single-board computer (SBC) is an open-source development tool created by a team of Linux enthusiasts and built upon the popular Raspberry Pi platform. Based on the objective of providing an enhanced hardware specification, the system features a removable SD card allowing it to boot into an operating system such as Ubuntu, Debian, Raspbien, Android, Arch Linux and more.

Targeted at the hobbyist and ‘maker’ community, the board runs on an Allwinner A20 dual-core processor (ARM Cortex-A7 architecture) at 1 GHz, with 1 GB of DDR3 DRAM. Interfaces include SATA, HDMI, Composite and LVDS output, HDMI audio, 3,5 mm stereo jack and microphone input, Gigabit Ethernet, two USB 2.0 ports, one OTG micro USB port and one Micro USB port for power, 26-pin GPIO header, camera connector and IR detector for remote controls.

A selection of peripheral equipment is also available, such as a touch screen, camera module, Wi-Fi dongles, enclosures, power adaptors and many others.
