Power Electronics / Power Management
A complete temperature monitoring system is available from Analog Devices in the tiny SOT-23 package. Offered in both a 5-pin lead and 6-pin lead version, the AD7414 (6-pin) and AD7415 (5-pin) are suited for consumer, communications, industrial and instrumentation, and other size-sensitive applications. Both contain a band-gap temperature sensor and 10 bit ADC to monitor and digitise the temperature reading to a resolution of 0,25°C.
With its SAR ADC architecture, the AD7414/15 consumes very low power - less than 3 µW - while providing one temperature reading per second. The measurable temperature range is -40° to + 85°C with a ±2°C temperature accuracy.
Among the key features of the AD7414 and AD7415 are two-wire serial interfaces - compatible with SMBus and I2C interfaces. The highly integrated AD7414 contains on-chip registers, which can be programmed with high and low temperature limits
The AD7414/15 is well suited to portable applications where low power is required and size is key, such as portable equipment, hard disk drives, cellphones, PCs, electronic test equipment, domestic appliances and process control equipment.
