Power MOS driver IC evaluation boards

24 October 2001 Power Electronics / Power Management

IXYS has introduced the EVDD408 and EVDD414 evaluation boards. These are complete circuit boards that have been designed to simplify the evaluation of the IXYS IXDD408 and IXDD414 high-speed gate driver ICs, as well as to provide a building block for power circuit development. There are three test points in the circuit for ease of characterisation.

The boards come with the 5-pin TO-263 factory-installed; however, any of the three available gate driver package types (SO-8, 8-pin DIP, 5 pin TO-220), may be used on the board too. These boards enable the user to drive power MOSFETs and IGBTs in the TO-220, TO-247, TO-264 or SOT-227 packages. The boards are also designed to accommodate high power and high frequency driver applications, by allowing the metal tab of gate drivers in the TO-220 and TO-263 packages to be soldered to a conductor plane on the board for better cooling. Circuitry for the unique tri-state function of the drivers is also included in the evaluation board.

The EVDD408 and EVDD414 are supplied with either IXDD408YI or IXDD424YI 5-pin TO-263 drivers installed.
