As part of its reference design offering called ‘PortNote Solutions’, Bourns has added three new solutions for protecting modern data interfaces, each complemented by a design kit containing the Bourns parts necessary for implementation.
For HDMI 2.0, which offers enhanced throughput of 18 Gbps for video, audio and Ethernet, robust ESD protection that does not affect the impedance of the differential transmission lines is required. Over-current and surge protection of the 5 V supply from spikes caused by hot plugging of the connector is also required. The HDMI 2.0 – ESD and Overcurrent Protection PortNote solution corresponds with the Model PN-DESIGNKIT-48 design kit, which contains samples of the three components that form the solution.
The SLIC (Subscriber Line Interface Circuit) provides all of the BORSCHT functions such as battery, ringing and supervision between the codec and telephone handset. The IP-PBX PortNote discusses negative battery voltage solutions against surge and power contact threats, applying a Bourns TBU high-speed protector Model TBU-PL060-200-WH and thyristor surge protectors Model TISP4500H3BJR.
Finally, the Vectored VDSL2 Protection PortNote solution corresponds with the Model PN-DESIGNKIT-50, which contains samples of the four components that form the solution. VDSL2 uses frequencies of up to 30 MHz to provide data rates exceeding 100 Mbps simultaneously in both upstream and downstream directions. This solution protects these ports against lightning surge and AC power contact threats.
