Medically certified DC-DC converters

4 November 2015 Power Electronics / Power Management

TDK-Lambda’s PXC-M series of 3 W, 6 W and 10 W DC-DC converters, packaged in the industry standard DIP-24 footprint, are medically certified units that can operate over a wide 4:1 input range. With 5000 V a.c. input to output isolation, these efficient converters are suitable for use in a broad spectrum of medical applications and battery powered equipment.

Accepting either a 9 to 36 V or 18 to 75 V input, the range is available with output voltages of 3,3 V, 5 V, 12 V, 15 V, 24 V, ±5 V, ±12 V and ±15 V. Operation from 12 V and 24 V, or 24 V and 48 V nominal inputs reduces inventory carrying costs and improves part availability.

Measuring 31,8 x 20,3 x 10,2 mm, the units will operate in ambient temperatures of -40°C to +105°C (with de-rating above 77°C for the 10 W and 94° C for the 3 W models). Optional features include an output voltage adjustment of up to -10% to +20% and remote on/off. Over-current and over-voltage protection is standard on all models. Off-load input current draw is 6 mA for 24 V input and 4 mA for 48 V input models, making them attractive for battery powered products.
