65 Watt external power supply

13 July 2016 Power Electronics / Power Management

XP Power announced the ALM65 series of external, single-output 65 Watt AC-DC power supplies. These compact supplies, measuring 33,5 x 125,5 x 55,5 mm, comply with the latest Level VI energy efficiency standard, introduced in February 2016. The new standard stipulates lower limits for the no-load input power of a supply to ensure that much less power is consumed when the end-unit is switched off or not connected, and increased active mode average efficiency to reduce waste power when the load is connected.

The units are approved to both the ITE EN/UL 60950-1 and IEC60601-1 / ANSI/AMMI ES60601-1 3rd edition medical safety standards, have a maximum leakage current of 250 μA and provide two means of patient protection (2 MOPP) isolation.

The ALM65 operates from an input of 80 to 264 V a.c. with full power available from 90 V a.c. All models can be specified with either a Class I or Class II input, allowing the designer to choose which earth grounding scheme is appropriate for the application. Optionally, Class I models can be ordered with an input lead retention clip in order to provide an extra level of protection of the input cord connection to the power supply.

The power supply meets the Level B EN55011 standard for both conducted and radiated emissions, as well as 4th edition medical EMC specifications. Constructed in a fully sealed enclosure that complies with the IP32 environmental rating, the units have a smooth surface finish, making them easier to wipe down in clinical locations. Suiting use in most environments, the ALM65 can operate in the temperature range 0°C to +60°C, with derating above +40°C.
