Linear Technology's LTC1871 is a current mode DC/DC controller for step-up, flyback and SEPIC applications. The device eliminates the need for a sense resistor by using MOSFET Rds(ON) and achieves efficiencies up to 96%. With a programmable operating frequency from 50 kHz to 1 MHz, designers can choose from a wider range of inductors and capacitors. In addition, users can program the mode of operation of the IC. Pulse-skip operation can be used for constant frequency applications, and Burst Mode operation for the highest efficiency at light loads. It operates with input voltages ranging from 2,5 to 36 V. The LTC1871 drives an N-channel power MOSFET to deliver output power and features output overvoltage protection and a precision ±1% internal voltage reference. The IC is offered in 10-lead MSOP package.
