IQD launched what it believed to be the world’s smallest 32,768 kHz clock oscillator in a design that also delivers very low power.

Measuring just 1,6 x 1,2 x 0,7 mm, the device is housed in a hermetically-sealed ceramic package.

With a current consumption of only 30 µA and with a standby current as low as 3 μA, this oscillator is ideal for use in handheld and battery powered applications, and wherever accuracy is required in real-time clocks. Typical applications include battery management systems, communication modules and systems (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Wireless LAN and Zigbee), LCD lighting systems and smart meters (AMR).

The product range delivers better temperature characteristic than standard 32,768 kHz tuning fork crystal based oscillators due to the use of an AT-cut crystal normally found in higher-frequency oscillators. Startup time is only 7 ms at 3,3 V with a rise and fall time of 200 ns.

These CMOS-based oscillators are available in three supply voltages: 1,8 V (IQXO-986), 2,5 V (IQXO-985) and 3,3 V (IQXO-984) with frequency stabilities of ±30 ppm over an operating temperature range of -20°C to 70°C or ±50 ppm over -40°C to 85°C.
