10 and 12 bit DACs use less than 140 µA

Maxim's SPI-compatible digital-to-analog converters, the 10 bit MAX-5711 and 12 bit MAX5712, typically consume less than 140 µA of supply current while operating on 2,7 to 5,5 V single-supply voltage.

The D/As dissipate 0,34 mW at 3 V and 0,7 mW at 5 V. A power-down capability drops supply current to 0,2 µA. Applications include portable, battery-powered equipment. Beyond low power consumption, the converters come in a six-pin SOT23, one of the smallest footprints available for D/As of similar performance. Their references are derived from Vdd, which eliminates the need for an external voltage reference and allows a wide dynamic range. An on-chip output buffer amplifier typically settles in 4 µs while achieving rail-to-rail output swing.

Output impedance is switched to 100 kOhm when either part is in power-down mode, or it can be set to 1 kOhm or high impedance via software command. A power-on reset circuit pulls the output down to ground through the resistor network to ensure that the D/A output resets to 0 V on power-up and remains there until a valid write command is issued.

A three-wire serial interface operates up to clock speeds of 20 MHz. The interface is compatible with SPI, QSPI, Microwire and digital signal processors.
