Small 750 mA LDO powers 1,65 or 1,8 V ICs from 2,5 V supply

30 January 2002 Power Electronics / Power Management

Said to be the industry's smallest 750 mA regulator for 2,5 to 1,65 V conversion, is being offered by Micrel Semiconductor. Featuring the lowest dropout voltage of any 750 mA LDO on the market, it has a dropout voltage of only 300 mV at its full load of 750 mA. Main applications for the MIC3975 include powering today's 1,65 or 1,8 V digital ICs from a 2,5 V+10% system bus or 2,5 V digital ICs from a 3,3 V +10% system bus, says the manufacturer.

For applications requiring more than 750 mA, Micrel also offers the MIC3910x, MIC3915x, MIC3930x, and MIC3950x LDOs which can support continuous currents of 1,0, 1,5, 3,0 and 5,0 A, respectively.

The MIC3975 is offered in MSOP-8 packaging, making it the smallest 750 mA LDO with µCap capability. µCap design enables the device to support smaller, more reliable ceramic output capacitors.
