PCB problems and failure modes webinar

15 November 2017 News

Bob Willis and Dataweek will be hosting a webinar on 23 January 2018 at 11:30 (Central African Time) covering the following topics:

• Through-hole plating failures

• CAF contamination shorts

• PCB delamination

• Nickel/gold - black pad & black tar

• Inner layer separation

• Solder mask cracking

• Outgassing

• Need for product specifications

• Auditing a PCB supplier

The printed circuit board is the building block of any electronic assembly and as such must exceed specification and be totally compatible with the assembly processes used in modern assembly. Failures in PCBs can be cosmetic, often the most common reason for rejection in manufacture or assembly. Failures can be found during assembly and final test, which is not ideal but much better than field returns.

In his presentation Bob Willis highlights test methods you can try, and tricks of the trade to understand how PCBs can fail and how to eliminate many of the common causes. After the webinar there is a Q&A session which provides time for all delegate questions to be answered. However, if a delegate has a process example they would like covered in the webinar it will need to be provided in advance of the session.

Engineers will benefit from the simple no-nonsense presentations on failures and why they occur in manufacture. This will allow staff to solve and eliminate the most common issues on PCBs.

The webinar will last between 60 and 90 minutes, and a copy of the slides will be provided to each delegate attending the online session. There will also be time for a Q&A session at the end of the webinar. In preparation for the event and to ensure you are equipped to get the maximum benefit from it, simple webinar guidelines are available at https://www.bobwillis.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/WebinarAttendance2017.pdf . System requirements can be viewed at https://link.gotowebinar.com/help-system-requirements-attendees.

Registration can be done online at https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/8522711938627362563. After registering, a confirmation email will be sent containing information about joining the webinar.
