Coaxial probes and interfaces for high frequency test

13 February 2002 Test & Measurement

Synergetix engineers have developed several new solutions for engineers testing at high frequencies or needing a RF interconnection. Synergetix designs and manufactures custom electrical interconnects and specialises in multicycle interconnects, utilising the spring probe technology of its sister company, IDI.

The recent custom connectors and interfaces provided by Synergetix incorporate IDI's patented coax probe technology to provide a low noise controlled impedance signal path with reliable and easy connect/disconnect operations.

Options include: cabled or double-ended; controlled impedance or high performance through very short signal paths; ring, quadrant or rectangular array footprint; customisable power, ground and signal paths, including capabilities for very low resistance or high current contacts; bandwidths above 10 GHz; and advanced mechanical docking and interconnection systems.

IDI's coax probe features an independently spring-loaded ground shield and signal conductor. The full-line IDI catalogue offers eight off-the-shelf coaxial probes, and the Coax catalogue has over 50 designs to choose from.

In terms of coax technology, the new Synerflex probe has an innovative design that provides an extremely short signal path and very close centres. This probe with pre-attached high performance cable features a bandwidth greater than 13 GHz. It provides a true coaxial design on 100 mil centres and is extremely short with an overall length without cable of 5,46 mm, while still allowing compliance of more than 0,55 mm.
