Comprehensive differential and common-mode measurement capability for handset components

13 March 2002 Test & Measurement

Anritsu's MS462xD series of Scorpion Vector Network Measurement Systems (VNMS) integrates mixed-mode S-parameters, embedding/de-embedding and arbitrary impedance features into its versatile network analyser family. The MS462xD Scorpion VNMS is a cost-effective solution for manufacturers that need to conduct fast and accurate measurements on both single-ended and balanced devices operating through 6 GHz as used in handsets.

With optional upgrades for amplifier, mixer and other module tests, the new 4-port models offer flexibility to further minimise test costs while improving throughput and accuracy.

The 4-port Scorpion now includes powerful simulation tools, such as mixed-mode S-parameters analysis, that provide realtime performance feedback on critical RF components used in handsets, including SAW filters. Accurate feedback is ensured through new de-embedding utilities that provide compensation techniques for typical test fixture environments. The MS462xD is well suited for applications requiring ripple and insertion loss measurements on the order of 0,1dB because the VNMS's arbitrary impedance transformations preserve accuracy when handling non-50 Ohm measurement situations. In addition, newly integrated embedding utilities, consisting of an extensive library of circuit primitives, increases productivity when simulating the final matched behaviour of components. With the additional measurement capabilities of the MS462xD, Anritsu says the Scorpion family can now reveal any component's true performance more accurately than any other instrument in its class.

The new four-port models complement the Scorpion family's existing two and three-port configurations. Available in two models that cover 10 MHz to 3 GHz and 10 MHz to 6 GHz, the high performance MS462xD VNMS typically offers 150 µs/point speed, 125 dB dynamic range and ±0,03 dB uncertainties for passband S21 measurements. Innovative options, including group delay, time domain, gain compression, harmonics, noise figure and intermodulation distortion, provide them with unprecedented versatility to additionally characterise amplifiers, mixers and other front-end modules.

With accuracy, versatility and the new balanced/differential features, the MS462xD Scorpion VNMS is offered in a variety of configurations for today's RF component test requirements. The flexible Scorpion platform also provides an easy upgrade path to satisfy most future requirements as well.

The Anritsu 2002 EMI catalogue is now available in hard copy or in CD-ROM version.
