Smallest high-quality CMOS sensor camera module
13 March 2002
Opto-Electronics
At the 3GSM World Congress 2002, Cannes, Hitachi revealed the industry's smallest high-picture-quality CMOS sensor camera module for mobile phones. According to the company, the 110 000-pixel CMOS sensor camera module, the HAM49002 is the industry's smallest and thinnest module, with dimensions of only 7,0 x 7,6 x 4,9 mm. It is targeted for use in mobile phones, PC cameras, toys and portable information terminals.
The camera module uses high-integration module technology to provide a CMOS sensor and camera signal processing chip in a single compact package. It offers a high sensitivity, 5 lux minimum field illuminance. The 16-bit single-chip microcontroller in the camera signal processing device enables handling of image adjustment functions such as exposure control and smooth image processing in response to changes of scene. Various functions can be controlled from an I2C bus, minimising camera system development times.
