Detector switches

13 March 2002 Switches, Relays & Keypads

ITT Industries, Cannon offers the SDS, DDS, MDS and KDS Series of C&K detector switches. These new families of products, all suited for low current level applications, complement Cannon's KSU and KSM Series switches, as well as the C&K ZM Series, KM Series, and MPS Series.

A detector switch is an electromechanical means to detect the presence of something, activating a switch by mechanical rather than human interface.

Sitting just 2 mm off the PCB, the SDS Series is available in surface-mount packaging. The SDS can be provided in normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC) contact configurations and is rated to 50 000 life cycles. The NO version of the SDS Series is side actuated with 2 mm of overtravel in the on position.

The DDS Series of detector switches is available in 3 plated through-hole packages, with side and top actuation. The DDS series profile sits 3,7 mm off the PCB and has 2 mm of overtravel in the on position. The DDS is rated for 50 000 life cycles.

The KDS Series, available in normally open or normally closed configurations, is a larger, slot mounted detect switch with 7,62 mm travel for detector applications which require long overtravel or large pre-travel. The KDS has two wire leads and is easily customised for special length and connector configurations.

The MDS Series is a micro miniature snap acting detector switch with 2,9 mm of total travel and is available in vertical and right angle printed circuit board mounting packages. The MDS is rated for 10 000 life cycles.
