Siemens Components - a world-class manufacturer of electronics

27 March 2002 News

Siemens Components markets integrated circuits, discrete semiconductors, biometrics, passive components and opto-electronic devices to the major manufacturers in the southern African electronics and associated industries.

Being a world class manufacturer of electronics, the company says that its support and customer solutions reflect excellence in an ever-changing world of technology and miniaturisation. Along with partners Infineon, Epcos and Osram Opto-Semiconductors, this company creates pace-setting innovations that benefit customers when developing electronic solutions.

Together with Epcos passive devices, Osram OS opto-electronic devices and Infineon semiconductors, biometrics and chipcard devices, Siemens Components has also recently acquired the responsibility of actively marketing and supporting Siemens' GSM and GPRS modules and terminals. These are OEM modules and plug-and-play terminals that are in high demand for the booming GSM, SMS and high speed data applications being developed locally.

Based in Linbro Park, east of Sandton, Siemens Components occupies office and warehousing space in conjunction with its official distributor, Electrocomp. This mutually beneficial relationship improves delivery to Electrocomp's own major customers, as well as providing aggressive pricing and competent technical support to Electrocomp's wide customer base of smaller developers and industries.

Driven by a motivated staff of 15 competent marketing, sales and technical people, annual sales in excess of R100 million are currently achieved. Siemens Components says it intends to increase this significantly in the next few years. By continuously improving its relationships with the top 40 original equipment manufacturers in the local electronics sector in South Africa and optimising fast-growing sales of all the previously mentioned product ranges, it believes these forecasts are entirely achievable.

Recently appointed GM, Edwin Brown, is continuously enthusiastic about these and all other prospects for the future of the division. Having been involved with Siemens Components for 16 years of his 20 years of experience in the electronics component supply business and, having taken over as GM of the division from Bob Welsh in July 2001, Edwin Brown is well qualified to anticipate such market trends.
