Pressfit high power D-sub connectors

27 March 2002 Manufacturing / Production Technology, Hardware & Services

Backplanes and interface PCBs are fitted with more and more DIN 41612/IEC 603-2 press-fit connectors. Because of this the use of D-sub high power connectors with solder terminations would have a high cost impact. Press-fit connectors allow economical and highly reliable assembly on the backplane due to the significantly lower failure rate press-fit technique offers in comparison to the solder technique. Benefits of press-fit are: gas-tight, corrosion-proof and mechanically strong connections; nonpolluting, no use of cleaning, flux or solder media; no thermal stress on the PCB.

Erni has pin configurations available in 3W3, 5W5 and 8W8, which could be loaded with maximum 3, 5 and 8 high power contacts. Partial loading with two contacts is also possible. For cable terminations, the cable connector housing, type KSG 200 offers EMI/RFI shielding and ESD protection or the KSG 183 and KSG 185 can be used.
