Exar teams up with ASIC Design Services

24 April 2002 News

ASIC Design Services, based in Midrand, has entered into a distributorship agreement with Exar Corporation, a Californian developer and marketer of high-performance, high-bandwidth analog and mixed-signal chips for communications. ASIC Design Services specialises in the design and distribution of technically complex electronic components. The agreement is effective from 1 March 2002.

In terms of the agreement, ASIC Design Services becomes the exclusive local distributor for Exar's network and transmission products. ASIC Design Services will also be distributing Exar's UART products.

Commenting on the agreement, Tony Dal Maso, CEO of ASIC Design Services said: "We are very excited about our appointment as Exar's exclusive distributor for the telecoms product range. Exar is a renown brand and the company has a strong tradition in analog design.

"In recent years Exar has refocused on the fast growing telecoms market. Customers will be particularly interested in the broad range of E1 LIUs and framers offered by Exar. Exar's telecoms products are highly complementary with our HALO (telecoms and networking magnetics) and Actel (programmable logic) product lines," he continues. "The agreement will allow us to offer telecoms customers a comprehensive and highly integrated HALO-EXAR-Actel solution. We are also enthusiastic about Exar's UART product line and are particularly interested in the UARTs that offer a PCI interface. These products complement our own PCILite solution. Our expertise in the specialised field of PCI will benefit customers who choose Exar's PCI solution".

Comments Dieter Kunick, Exar sales manager for Central Europe: "In ASIC Design Services, we have an outstanding representative with an excellent track record and a detailed understanding of both our major market segments. ASIC Design Services has a product portfolio that is highly complementary to our communications products. This partnership is a major step to improving design support for our customers in South Africa."
