3 Mb video frame buffer

24 April 2002 Opto-Electronics

The AL422 is a video frame memory from Averlogic that is used to buffer audio/video/graphic data for digital processing, timing correction, or format conversion.

The AL422 consists of 3 Mb of DRAM, and is configured as 393 216 words x 8 bit FIFO. The interface is user-friendly since all complicated DRAM operations are already managed by the internal DRAM controller. Current sources of similar memory (field memory) in the market provide limited memory size which is only enough for holding a TV field, but not enough for a whole PC video frame which normally contains 640x480 or 720x480 bytes, says AverLogic.

The device can accept either 3,3 V or 5 V power. The internal voltage regulator can be configured to convert 5 V power to 3,3 V for the embedded DRAM and logic circuitry. The AL422 is 5 V or 3,3 V I/O tolerant. 3,3 V configuration consumes less power and is free from regulator noise interference - more ideal for high-speed applications.

The AL422B comes in standard 28-pin plastic SOP.
