Four new power management devices in anyCAP range

24 April 2002 Power Electronics / Power Management

Analog Devices has added to its anyCAP LDO (low dropout regulator) line of power management chips. The first pair is the ADP3338 and ADP3339 devices that increase battery life and improve design tolerance so system power can be used more efficiently. These devices offer users the lowest dropout and highest precision 1 A and 1,5 A LDOs in the market, according to the manufacturer. The ADP3338 and ADP3339 are suitable for a wide array of applications, including cable boxes, audio/entertainment systems, power sources for embedded DSP-and microcontroller-based systems, wireless basestations, USB hubs, external DSL/cable modems and routers.

ADI has additionally expanded its offerings in the lower-current LDO arena with the introduction of the ADP3333 and ADP3334. These chips provide accuracy of 1,8% and ultra-low dropout voltage, featuring output currents of 300 and 500 mA respectively. The devices also include a safety current limit, thermal overload protection and a shutdown feature. In shutdown, ground current is reduced to less than 1 µA.

ADI's anyCAP technology is the first LDO technology to allow designers to use virtually any size and type of output capacitor, regardless of ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance), and still maintain output stability.
