Today's motor car uses more DC motors than ever before. Electronic solutions for controlling these motors are rapidly replacing electromechanical relays, delivering improved reliability and higher functionality. To provide designers with an advanced, high-performance option, STMicroelectronics offers the TD340, a quad n-channel power MOSFET driver suitable for H-bridge drives in 12 V motor applications, such as electric windows or windscreen wipers.
Designed to drive MOSFETs with low RDS(on) (16 mOhm typically), the TD340 includes integrated functions designed to reduce external component count and control circuitry. According to the manufacturer, a complete 12 V motor control system can be built with only two ICs, four power MOSFETs and a few passive components.
The TD340 driver has an integrated 5 V regulator with 20 mA capability for microcontroller supply. Speed control is by internal or external PWM generator - inaudible 25 kHz PWM frequency (adjustable).
In SO20 package the TD340 has an operating temperature range of -40 to 125°C and can withstand voltage transients up to 60 V according to automotive specifications.
