WLAN analysis option available for Agilent 89600-Series vector signal analysers

22 May 2002 Test & Measurement

Agilent's new WLAN analysis option for its 89600-series vector signal analysers allows users to measure the RF and modulation quality of WLAN signals. Targeted at RF design engineers working on IEEE802.11a and HiperLAN2-compliant modems and access points, this option provides the tools needed to evaluate and troubleshoot the RF and modulation performance of the signals produced by their designs.

Testing 802.11a or HiperLAN2 signals is not simple. Their unusual OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) signalling format uses 52 carriers, spaced only 312,5 KHz apart, and multiple modulation formats to achieve data transfer rates up to 54 Mbps. The 89600's new 802.11a/HiperLAN2 OFDM modulation-analysis option processes the OFDM format, automatically determines which modulation formats are present in the WLAN frame, and displays them using a new compound constellation display. A Symbols/Errors table summarises the results of five automatic measurements made on the signal, including overall EVM, frequency error and carrier leakage.

Customers can easily evaluate and troubleshoot the RF and modulation performance of signals in their designs with the new WLAN analysis option for the 89600-series vector signal analysers.
