Small and efficient high-frequency boost switcher has 5-12 V output

Almost every portable instrument uses 2-cell alkaline or 1- to 2-cell Ni or Li batteries. With a typical operating output voltage range from 5 V to 12 V, these applications require a boost converter. Also, load conditions of circuits are becoming more complicated and more demanding on power. The load requires high-speed transient response, and the applicable PC board is restricted for real estate and height.
Analog Devices' ADP3031 is the company's first current-mode PWM boost converter. If one has an input condition from 2,5 V to 5,5 V and wishes to generate an output range from the input to 12 V with moderate output current, the ADP3031 can be a solution for such a requirement. In order to support high-speed transient response times, the PWM architecture is advantageous. Adjustable up to 2 MHz, at this frequency inductor size can be significantly reduced, and the input and output capacitors can be small MLCC types.
This fully integrated 1,5 A power switch offers simple compensation and is suited for applications such as portable electronics, instrumentation and TFT LCD biasing.
