Digital multimeters offer high performance

5 June 2002 Test & Measurement

The MT1000 Series DMM from MajorTech offer a wealth of new features, ranges, speed, accuracy and resolution. This range meets IEC1010-1 CAT III 1000 V and IEC1010-1 CAT IV 600 V safety ratings to withstand overvoltage transients up to 8 kV per IEC 1010-1. All have UL approval. The battery access door allows a fuse or battery to be replaced without breaking the calibration seal. Overmoulding technology in the case disperses shock over more of the case than a conventional rubber boot design. These meters all come with a standard lifetime warranty from MajorTech.

Both the MT1007 and MT1005 boast 0,05% accuracy and 50000 counts of resolution on a dual-reading display, enhancing troubleshooting by giving the ability to correlate two relevant events. The 50 kHz AC bandwidth opens possibilities to test modern applications not possible with conventional DMMs. They have a bright LED backlight as well as an enhanced LCD with larger digits, wide viewing angle and on screen menu selection. Convenient closed case calibration allows adjustments to be made directly through the RS232C port.

The MT1007 measures volts (DC to 1 µV), ohms, amps, conductance, temperature in °C or °F and capacitance up to 5 mF. Other features include continuity and diode test. The dual reading display also has a bargraph for simultaneous readouts such as true-rms AC+DC and Hz, dB, mVdc and more. Besides relative mode and Min/Max average, the meter has a 1 ms Fast Min/Max for capturing peak transients. In addition the MT1007 can store up to 10 measurements in stand-alone operation. The MT1005 is a 5000 count display and measures volts (DC to 10 µV), and has all the same features of the MT1007 except the AC+DC measurement feature.

The MT1003 and MT1001 have 4000 count backlit displays and are designed to withstand falls from benchtops, ladders or other work areas. These two DMMs are suited for technicians in field service, facilities maintenance and production equipment maintenance/installation. The input ranges and functions are protected to the meters' rated voltage so that it will not blow a fuse or be destroyed if connected to live while measuring ohms.

The MT1003 DMM features true-rms AC readings for correct measurement even when harmonics are present. Other features include volts up to 1000 V a.c. and DC, ohms, capacitance, Hz and duty cycle, temperature and amps. A relative mode, data hold, continuity buzzer and diode test are added features. The MT1001 is an average responding DMM that has the same features as the MT1003 except no temperature measurement.
