Two-phase controllers for advanced micros

ON Semiconductor's CS5308 is a two-phase step-down controller with all the control functions required to power high-performance desktop and server processors adhering to VRM 8.5 power supply specifications. The CS5308 incorporates a two-phase controller with on-board gate drivers and 'PowerGood' output to provide the Vcore power required to effectively run high-performance microprocessors. The controller includes VTT monitoring and timing functions to provide the precision timing required to effectively power-up memory. Advanced multi-phase architecture delivers balanced load current for each phase. It has fast transient response (within 100 ns) and allows operation at lower switching frequencies (200 kHz to 800 kHz) for improved efficiency, better thermal response and reduction in the number of output capacitors needed. Input and output filter ripple is also reduced. The CS5308 is offered in a SOIC-28 package.
